In September 2008, I toured with Davie Lawson to film a documentary about him, which is due April 2010. This week, we decided to upload some outtakes from a session we recorded at Ro Halfhide’s place in Amsterdam. Halfhide also recorded the audio. The songs, ‘All I See’ and ‘The Black River’, are both featured on Lawson’s second album ‘Tree Tumble Wake Mother’, out later this Spring.
Davie Lawson will be touring The Netherlands in April 2010.
Fine Fine Music asked me to film an interview with the legendary The Undertones by pop journalist Gijsbert Kamer at Paradiso, Amsterdam. I also made a little impression of the night, with performances by I Kissed Charles, Tim Knol and Lola Kite as well. (more…)
On Sunday the 12th of April, I went to Hoorn with Anne Soldaat, to see his tryout gig in a venue called Huis Verloren. It turned out to be great, the upcoming tour will be a must see for everyone. I filmed the show as test shot for the Paradiso show I’m going to film for my Anne Soldaat documentary and decided to upload a little preview, even though the sound’s terrible. (more…)

Earlier on there was Lukas Batteau ‘Onder Invloed’ live in Germany, now here is Closer To Curtis ‘Onder Invloed’ live at the EKKO, Utrecht. Three songs from the last concert of their Dutch tour: ‘Digital’, ‘24 Hours’ and ‘Transmission’. The crowd loved it, so did the musicians and so did the cameras. A night to remember. What? You haven’t heard of Davie Lawson yet? You definitely should’ve. But, don’t worry, all that’s going to change in a few minutes.
Davie is a talented singer from Glasgow, Scotland. Earlier this year he opened for Dutch singersongwriter Lucky Fonz III on his clubtour. In the beginning of sunny June, he recorded an Onder Invloed-session, together with Ro Halfhide; founder of the Amsterdam Songwriters Guild. Ro played percussion and recorded the audio in his backyard in the Dutch capital.
After the three covers (watch them here) in the hot sun, Davie just wouldn’t stop playing. Another five songs of his own writing were recorded. ‘The Black River’, ‘Annie’, ‘Momma’, ‘Belle’s Home Made Dress’ and ‘A Balladeer’.
Today, all five songs can be watched here, called ‘The Backyard Session’. Was it really magic, in between the statue, snails and plants? See for yourself and place your judgement in a comment.

Speelparadijs Kidzcity op bedrijventerrein Cartesiusweg in Utrecht is zwaar beschadigd door een felle brand, die vrijdagmiddag rond kwart voor vier uitbrak. Ik was op dat moment in dB’s toen de rook boven de daken uitkwam en besloot even te gaan kijken, met de videocamera op mijn mobiele telefoon. Het AD bleek geinteresseerd in de beelden. Opvallend of niet; vrijwel iedere muzikant moet worden uitgelegd dat ‘invloed’ niets met drugs of drank te maken heeft, maar met zijn of haar muzikale voorbeelden. Een openhartig kijkje in de muzikale opvoeding van de Utrechtse artiesten. In aflevering 4 van Onder Invloed, brengt Lilian Hak iets totaal anders dan de electro die we van haar gewend zijn en toont ze aan ook met slechts toetsen en zang mooie muziek te kunnen maken.
In 2007 behaalde Lilian Hak de 3VOOR12 Song van het Jaar-lijst; een selectie van de honderd beste liedjes, met ‘Stitch My Name’. Op dit moment zit ze aan de andere kant van de wereld, in Bangkok, muziek te maken. Wanneer het nieuwe album uit zal komen, is nog niet helemaal zeker, maar het mag duidelijk zijn dat Hak niet bepaald stil zit. In april zal haar eigen electro-avond Stitch voor het eerst plaatshebben; een avond waarbij enkel vrouwelijke artiesten het podium zullen betreden. Op 22 maart vond de eerste In A Cabin With You-avond plaats in de EKKO, Utrecht, met optredens van Arthur Adam, Neonbelle, Chop Wood, Stan Vreeken en Una Bergin.

In A Cabin With is het project van producer Maarten Besseling waarin hij muzikanten een week meeneemt naar een huis in het buitenland om daar nieuwe liedjes te schrijven en op te nemen. Het afgelopen jaar raakte het project landelijk bekend met sessies van Neonbelle en Arthur Adam, dit jaar staan er sessies gepland met onder andere Odilo Girod (Chop Wood, Coparck) en Bong-Ra.
Na anderhalf jaar bleek de tijd rijp om een avond te vullen in EKKO. In de zaal traden achtereenvolgens Arthur Adam, Neonbelle en Chop Wood op, in het cafegedeelte fungeerde Stan Vreeken (Along Came Stan) als bijzonder fijne tijdvulling.
